60 Years of the Singapore Red Cross showcased in cardboard exhibition

Wednesday, 21 October – The Singapore Red Cross (SRC) launch of the “Together for Humanity Exhibition” saw SRC council members, long-time volunteers, youth members and representatives from fellow humanitarian organisations view an array of photos and memorabilia on a unique and environmentally-friendly cardboard box display.

Held at the Drome on Level 1 of the Atrium @ Orchard (beside Plaza Singapura), the event saw Senior Parliamentary Secretary of Ministry of Manpower and Ministry of Health, Hawazi Daipi, graced the occasion as guest-of-honour.

Mr Hawazi Daipi, along with Chairman of SRC Mr Tee Tua Ba and Secretary-General of SRC Mr Christopher Chua, launched the Exhibition by putting SRC items into an SRC “time capsule” – a box containing items such as water purification units and food rations SRC has sent to survivors of disasters; SRC publications and brochures; as well as collateral and mementoes from SRC’s blood donor recruitment program.

This “time capsule” will be on display at the Exhibition, held from 21 October to 30 October, 11am to 9pm, at the Drome at the Atrium @ Orchard. It will subsequently be placed at the SRC Heritage Centre.

The exhibit displays various photos and memorabilia, some of which go back to the 1950s, when the SRC was still under the British Red Cross. Some of the photos were also extracted from the National Archives of Singapore. Long-time volunteers also contributed to the Exhibition with memorabilia they have collected over the years, such as uniforms, certificates and annual reports.

The Exhibition also has a kid’s interactive corner which engages children to use their creativity to come up with a display using only the recycled cardboards and materials and to the theme of “Together for Humanity”.   Their displays will be placed at the Exhibition.
