Project R.I.C.E. 2010 A Success

Project R.I.C.E 2010 was a resounding success! This year, with bigger targets and more beneficiaries to provide to, the Singapore Red Cross (SRC) reached out to corporate sponsor Sheng Siong Supermarket, who has donated a large amount of rice to top off our door-to-door collections and sale of special rice vouchers.

Sheng Siong’s contributions and the rice collection from various primary schools have boosted the total amount of rice, along with the rice from door-to-door collection, to a massive 100,000kgs. The Red Cross Humanitarian Network, SRC’s tertiary institution volunteers helmed the project and committed the rice to more than 60 welfare organisations. Over 800 volunteers went door-to-door to more than 75,000 HDB households to collect 36,000kgs of rice for two days.

Recipients of the rice, such as Ang Mo Kio Family Service Centres and Food from the Heart, can rest assured that their beneficiaries have sufficient rice to enjoy with their loved ones over the festive Chinese New Year period.

SRC would like to thank everyone involved for their hard work and support, as well as the kind HDB residents for giving the beneficiaries a reason to smile. Till the next Project R.I.C.E, we would like to wish all of you a very Happy New Year!
