The Red Cross Carnival at Big Splash - Saturday 1 August, 2009
An exhilarating afternoon it was indeed, when the Singapore Red Cross Society kick-started a line up of events for the celebration of its 60th Anniversary by holding a carnival at Big Splash. Over a thousand people turned up for the event and witnessed Guest-of-Honour Edmund Chen as he was appointed as its first celebrity ambassador – an occasion that will go down in the history of the the Singapore Red Cross Society.
Another highlight of the day was when the Singapore Red Cross Society launched its first-ever First Aiders on Wheels, who officially start patrolling East Coast Park the following day.
Music performances by the volunteers and schools such as Nanyang Junior College, Echo Music School and Singapore Management University, to name a few, entertained the Guests-of-Honour and spectators with their wide array of melodies.
For people that were curious about the various services of the Singapore Red Cross Society, First-Aid and CPR demonstrations were on-hand to give passer-bys a little more insight on the topic. Not forgetting those who were keeping a keen eye out for good bargains, were definitely not disappointed with the wide selections of items to choose from.
With this fun-filled and exciting afternoon, the 60th anniversary celebrations got off to a splendid start.
