Adult Volunteer Division
The Adult Volunteer Division (AVD) is made up of volunteers aged 16 years and above. Coming from all walks of life, the volunteers share the same commitment and passion to do their bit for humankind. AVD provides an avenue for these volunteers to contribute to society in the company of a close knit group of friends formed during their volunteering experiences with the AVD.
Background
The Adult Volunteer Division (AVD) has a long history which dates back to its formation in 1952. Initially a uniformed group, it has now evolved to comprise both uniformed and non-uniformed volunteers who are grouped into Detachments. Members of the AVD focus on first aid related activities but are also actively engaged in championing other humanitarian causes synonymous with the Red Cross movement.

Voluntary First Aid CoverageVoluntary First Aid Coverage remains an integral part of the activities of the AVD. Volunteers (both with and without a medical background) who join the Division are trained in first aid and other essential skills that will enable them to perform these first aid duties with confidence. Each year, the AVD volunteers clock more than 5,000 man-hours in covering varied events such as the National Day Parade, Marathons, Concerts and other large scale public events. Disaster PreparednessThe AVD partners the Red Cross Ambulance Service in supporting the Ministry of Health in their Disaster Preparedness exercises. Through participation in such events, AVD volunteers are equipped with valuable skills that would be called upon in times of emergency and disaster. These volunteers are not only able to contribute during peacetime, they will also be ready to play their part in assisting the nation's rescue teams in times of disasters. |

International Humanitarian AssistanceThe AVD is actively involved in the SRC International Humanitarian Assistance projects, such as the Tsunami in year 2004, Johor floods in 2006 and Myanmar Cyclone Nargis in 2008. AVD volunteers assist both in the coordination efforts that take place in Singapore as well as relief efforts in the disaster area. |

Volunteer Welfare and TrainingTraining Courses such as the Standard First Aid (SFA) Course, Ambulance Driver Orientation Course, Basic Cardiac Life Support Course (BCLS) course and the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) course, are amongst the few conducted regularly by the AVD for its volunteers. Such training is crucial in ensuring that volunteers remain well prepared to respond should the need arise. |

Welfare Being able to work together as a close knit family is a unique strength of AVD. AVD organises regular recreational activities to create additional opportunities for its members to bond and strengthen their ties. Such bonding helps to foster greater teamwork and understanding amongst its members in the course of their voluntary work. The activities include the monthly ‘Relax & Recreation’ sessions and annual Bowling Competition, just to name a few. The AVD also presents awards and tokens of appreciation to long serving active volunteers in recognition of their unwavering service to the community. |
How You Can Help
Volunteers who are keen to volunteer on a regular basis are welcome to contribute their time, skills and expertise with the AVD. We welcome volunteers with or without prior first aid/medical knowledge or who wish to focus only on non-first aid related activities within the AVD.
