China Earthquake - Singapore Red Cross Action
Following the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck the south-western province of Sichuan on 12 May, the Singapore Red Cross (SRC) has been working closely with sister national society, the Red Cross Society of China (RCSC), for their emergency relief operations in Sichuan.
Besides launching a public appeal for the survivors of the earthquake, the SRC has also sent over 260,000 rice sticks, worth over S$200,000, to the RCSC for the survivors. These rice sticks are ready-to-eat meals that do not require heating or water for consumption.
The SRC has also contributed S$150,000 to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) for the emergency relief work in China. In addition, the SRC has pledged USD$1,000,000 for necessary relief items following a request from the RCSC.
