"To the uninitiated, "First Aid" brings to mind scenes of medical personnel applying bandages on wounded soldiers in battle, as well as the stereotypical scenario where a young boy gives aspirin to an old lady clutching her chest. However, the TJC-VJC Photoquiz was, perhaps, successful in debunking these stereotypes. It attempted to inject more possible applications and interpretations of first aid to Red Cross members in JCs around Singapore. Over 200 participants challenged themselves in a gruelling theory round, and 6 teams took part in the video and practical rounds.
We faced numerous obstacles in the training process – there was much ground to be covered in realm of first aid, and we only had one month to train our participants for the competition. However, with hours of going through the First Aid Manual and tying various bandages, we persevered and managed to do well in the competition.
Indeed, I enjoyed myself thoroughly when I was training for and participating in the Photoquiz, and I will remember it for time to come."
