Singapore, 21 April 2011 – The Singapore Red Cross has sent another tranche of humanitarian aid to Japan this morning. The consignment of 500 collapsible water containers was requested by the Japanese Government for distribution in Ishinomaki-shi, Miyagi Prefecture, and is expected to arrive at Narita Airport today.
This latest consignment follows the earlier consignment of 30 pallets of humanitarian aids comprising 10,000 bottles of water (500 ml), 1,200 blankets and 200 mattresses.
To date, the Singapore Red Cross has collected close to S$25 million for relief efforts in Japan. The Singapore Red Cross thanks all donors – individuals and groups, for their warm support to our fundraising effort.
Our fundraising permit for the Japan Disaster Appeal ends on 30 April. Whilst public solicitation will discontinue, donors and fundraisers are still welcome to channel proceeds to the Singapore Red Cross after this date, and the donations will be channeled to the Japan relief.
The Japanese Red Cross has called for a Partnership Meeting amongst National Societies of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies on 9 May in Tokyo, at which the Singapore Red Cross will be represented. The Meeting will discuss the operational updates and plans for early recovery and reconstruction.
